If the whole Ultimatebet hand is played for two bets before the flop, then one on each street, there are at least 22 small bets in the pot when you check and another player bets on the river. Checking and calling with a medium hand such as top pair with a bad kicker, or second pair, is probably correct when there is no four flush or four straight already on board. In these cases it helps to know your opponents.

I am not a happy camper. Very often I hear people complaining about the Ultimatebet plays that new/novice/amateurs made in a game, plays that caused the complainer to lose the hand! A hand they would have most assuredly won if the other guy "would have played like he should have". This is very confusing to me.

Remember, if you consistently take hands too far and bluff too much in the name of "unpredictability", you are no longer playing tight/aggressive. While trying to deceive people into believing you are a loose/aggressive or loose/passive player, you may in fact become one! Even when you finally show down a poor hand, your opponents must notice your play and make a change in how they play Ultimatebet against you.
